About me:

Grit Ranft

Even if I, Grit Ranft, wasn’t born in Munich, I am really enthusiastic about this fabulous city! I was lucky enough to have moved to Bavaria about 20 years ago. Ever since I have been living here with my husband and my two daughters. Together we have been enjoying life in this “Metropole with a heart”. We love the atmosphere of “the northernmost city of Italy” – just to name two of Munich’s nicknames.

After having studied business administration I worked in the finance departments of International Companies in Dublin, London and Stockholm. Finally in 2014 I decided to completely change my life and make my dream come true. I qualified as a professional tour guide. I successfully completed the training of Munich Tourist Board, became a member of the nationwide association of qualified tour guides in Germany and since then have constantly been taking part in regular trainings in order to keep up the standard. This is also how I met Alexander, the owner of  YourMunichTour.  He has not only become my favourite colleague but also a very close friend.

Very quickly I realised that it is very important to reflect on 20th century history these days, especially regarding the crucial role that Munich played in helping Hitler and his nazi-party fellows rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. That’s why I decided to become a licensed guide at the former Concentration Camp of Dachau and have been treasuring the work for the Memorial Site since 2015. As feedback on my tours has always been very positive, I was honored to have been selected as a local guide for Rick Steves’ groups here in Munich and also was allowed to take part in his radio travel program.

I love to share my enthusiasm for Munich with my guests, regardless whether international tourist groups, school classes, short-term city hoppers, history buffs or culture seekers. It doesn’t matter if you want to discover the well-known sites or to get to know the city off the beaten tracks, I will always help you to see behind the obvious as your guide. Because I also love to show Munich locals around their neighborhoods, I don’t merely focus on the historic city center, but also on the different quarters such as “Haidhausen” or “Schwabing” which all have a certain appeal and tell you a lot about our city and its inhabitants.

Being a big fan of Munich’s “Gemütlichkeit” myself – this is what we call the feeling of relaxing in one of our traditional beer-gardens or socializing with friends in our beer halls – you may also accompany me on one of my tours across the Oktoberfest, the famous “Viktualienmarket” or the Christmas market, where you will learn a lot about typical traditions and can treat yourself to some of the city’s Bavarian delicacies.

Regardless of your group being big or small, I love to interact as a guide with my guests. This is why I can turn your trip to Munich into an unforgettable experience.

I am looking forward to showing you around Munich!

PS: För övrigt, om du vill ha en guidad tur på svenska så går det också bra. Jag lärde mig att prata ditt språk när jag bodde i Stockholm och har redan haft många gäster från Sverige. Vad kul att träffas!
