Nymphenburg Palace Guided Tour
Immerse yourself in royal splendour and history
Come and stroll through baroque dreams!
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, follow the old royal road to Nymphenburg, a place that combines family history, art history and political history in an inimitable way. Find out how Venetian gondolas came to Bavaria and how the Olympic Games came to the palace park and join us on a guided tour between baroque world theater and enlightened garden art.
When an heir to the throne is born…
It all began with a gift on the occasion of the birth of the heir to the throne in 1662, and over several generations it has evolved into a place that reflects the history of the family that has guided the fate of Munich and Bavaria for centuries. A country house developed into a castle, and a park grew around it. The most famous architects and garden designers of their time shaped the grounds and made Nymphenburg a living document of the Wittelsbach family’s centuries-long attachment to their summer residence – right up to the present day.
A stage for power and influence
But as the summer residence of the princely family, Nymphenburg was not just a private place. Especially during the Baroque era, architecture and horticulture became the backdrop for the staging of the power and influence of a princely court and the guest took to the stage. On which step of the outside staircase would the Prince have expected YOU to appear and would you have been allowed to drive your carriage into the dry? A detour to the porcelain collection with Anton Bustelli’s famous Commedia dell’arte figures or to the Marstallmuseum with carriages that were barely fit to drive because of their splendour, will only show you some varieties of baroque luxury’.
Experience art and music
Immerse yourself in the realities of life for generations, in times gone by when the squeaking of children’s carriages echoed through the corridors of the castle, two kings had very different galleries of beauties painted and salute shots announced the birth of a fairy-tale king. It almost seems as if the sounds of the tour guest Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were still echoing in the light splendour of the Stone Hall. But perhaps it is also the sound of a concert that echoes through the open windows of the Hubertussaal.
Add a relaxing stroll through the park
And if you have had enough of the palace, then simply add a walk through the park to your visit. Along winding paths we take you to the most beautiful places: the famous four park castles and hidden corners. Just let us surprise you! A summer gondola ride on the canals or the Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg in the Schlossrondell also invite you to extend your stay.
Whether you are travelling with your family, friends, children or business partners, Nymphenburg’s variety has something in store for you too and will inspire you time and again. Join us on a journey of discovery!
